Our Story

A passion for authentic Italian cuisine, reimagined with Pacific Northwest sensibilities.

From Tuscany to Portland

Osteria Bella began with a simple dream: to create a place where the warmth of Italian hospitality meets the vibrant food culture of the Pacific Northwest. Chef Marco Benedetti, born in the rolling hills of Tuscany, spent two decades mastering his craft in kitchens across Europe before falling in love with Portland's farm-to-table movement.

In 2015, Marco and his wife Elena transformed a historic building in the heart of downtown Portland into the restaurant of their dreams. The name "Osteria Bella" means "beautiful tavern" in Italian. A place where good food, good wine, and good company come together.

Today, we're proud to serve our community. From celebrating anniversaries to hosting business dinners, we've become a gathering place for moments that matter.

What Guides Our Kitchen

Seasonal & Local

Our menu changes with the seasons because the best dishes start with the best ingredients. We work directly with local farmers, fishers, and foragers to bring you produce at its peak.

Handcrafted Daily

From our fresh pasta made each morning to our house-baked focaccia, we believe in the art of making things by hand. There are no shortcuts to flavor.

Sustainably Minded

We're committed to sustainable practices. We compost, source responsibly, and choose suppliers who share our values for treating the planet well.

Made with Love

Every dish that leaves our kitchen carries a piece of our passion. We cook for you like we cook for our family. With care, attention, and genuine love.

Marco Benedetti

Born in Lucca, Tuscany

Marco's culinary journey began in his grandmother's kitchen, where he learned that the best meals are made with patience, quality ingredients, and love. At 18, he enrolled at the prestigious Culinary Academy in Rome, then spent years honing his skills at Michelin-starred restaurants across Italy and France.

His cooking style honors traditional Italian techniques while embracing the incredible bounty of the Pacific Northwest. Expect dishes that feel both familiar and surprising. Rooted in tradition but never boring.

When not in the kitchen, Marco can be found at local farmers' markets, foraging for wild mushrooms, or teaching cooking classes to aspiring home chefs.

"The table is where families become closer, where friendships are deepened. I want Osteria Bella to be the backdrop for those moments."
