Our Story

Started with a Truck and a Chainsaw

Canopy Tree Experts began in 2007 when founder Ryan Gallagher left a large commercial landscaping firm to start his own tree care company. He saw too many trees being removed unnecessarily by crews that lacked the knowledge to diagnose and treat problems. He wanted to do things differently.

Ryan earned his ISA Certified Arborist credential and built Canopy around a simple idea: understand the tree before you pick up the saw. That philosophy attracted like-minded professionals and word-of-mouth referrals that grew the company from a one-man operation into a team of twelve.

Today, Canopy serves residential and commercial clients across five counties. We have a fleet of specialized equipment including bucket trucks, cranes, and commercial-grade stump grinders. But our approach has not changed. Every job still starts with a certified arborist walking the property, assessing the trees, and having an honest conversation about what needs to happen and why.

Three principles guide every decision we make, from the front office to the field.

Safety First

Tree work is among the most dangerous trades in the country. We follow OSHA and ANSI Z133 safety standards on every job. Our crews hold weekly safety briefings and every climber is trained in aerial rescue. No shortcut is worth risking a life.

Tree Preservation

Removal is always a last resort. We exhaust every treatment option first because a mature, healthy tree adds thousands of dollars to property value and takes decades to replace. When we can save a tree, we will.

Honest Pricing

You will never get a surprise invoice from us. Our estimates are detailed, written, and include everything: labor, equipment, hauling, and cleanup. If the scope changes, we discuss it before we proceed.

ISA Certified Arborist with 22 years in the trade. Ryan personally oversees complex removals and works with clients on long-term tree management plans for their properties.

Certified Arborist & Crew Lead

ISA Certified with a degree in forestry from State University. Maria specializes in tree health diagnostics, pest management, and structural pruning for residential properties.

Jake Mercer

Climbing Specialist & Crew Lead

Fifteen years of climbing experience and certified in aerial rescue. Jake leads our technical removal crews and handles the most challenging rigging and crane-assisted operations.
