Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the things people ask us most. If you don't see your question here, just reach out.

Not at all. Most of our students are complete beginners. Our intro classes are designed specifically for people who have never touched clay before. We start with the very basics and go at your pace. The only requirement is a willingness to get messy and a sense of humor about your first few pots.
Wear comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. Clay washes out of most fabrics, but it does splash, especially on the wheel. Avoid loose or flowing sleeves, dangling jewelry, and open-toed shoes. We provide aprons, but they won't catch everything. Think: your favorite old jeans and a t-shirt you don't love too much.
After you finish making a piece, it needs to dry completely (about a week), then bisque fire (first firing), then get glazed, then glaze fire (second firing). The whole process takes about 2-3 weeks from the time you finish the piece. We'll send you an email when your work is ready for pickup.
We cap our regular classes at 8 students. This is intentionally small so that every student gets meaningful one-on-one time with the instructor. You won't just watch a demo from across the room -- you'll get hands-on guidance at your wheel or workstation throughout the session.
We understand that life happens. You can cancel or reschedule up to 48 hours before your class for a full refund or credit. Cancellations within 48 hours receive studio credit valid for 6 months. No-shows are not eligible for refunds, but we're happy to work with you if something unexpected comes up -- just give us a call.
Yes. There's free street parking on Kiln Street and the surrounding blocks. In the evenings and on weekends, finding a spot is usually easy. If street parking is tight, there's a public lot one block east on Division Street with $2/hour rates. We're also a 5-minute walk from the bus stop on Hawthorne Boulevard.
