Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to the most common questions about orthodontic treatment at BrightAlign.

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that every child have an orthodontic evaluation by age 7. At this age, the first permanent molars and incisors have usually come in, allowing us to identify potential issues early. Early evaluation doesn't always mean early treatment -- often we'll simply monitor growth and development. But when intervention is needed, starting early can prevent more complex problems later and may shorten overall treatment time.
Treatment time varies depending on the complexity of your case, the type of treatment chosen, and how well you follow your treatment plan. On average, most patients wear braces for 12 to 24 months. Clear aligner treatment can sometimes be shorter, ranging from 6 to 18 months for mild to moderate cases. During your free consultation, we'll give you a more specific timeline based on your individual needs.
Many dental insurance plans include orthodontic benefits, typically covering a portion of treatment costs (often $1,000 to $2,000). We accept most major insurance plans and our team will verify your benefits and file claims on your behalf at no extra charge. If your plan doesn't cover orthodontics or you don't have insurance, we offer flexible in-house financing with 0% interest to make treatment affordable for every family.
It's normal to experience some discomfort for a few days after braces are placed or after an adjustment. This is your teeth responding to the gentle pressure being applied, and it typically subsides within 3-5 days. Over-the-counter pain relievers and a soft food diet can help during this period. Clear aligners generally cause less discomfort, with mild pressure when switching to a new set of trays. Most patients find that any soreness is very manageable and well worth the final result.
True orthodontic emergencies are rare, but we're always here to help. If you experience a broken bracket, poking wire, or significant discomfort, call our office right away. We offer same-day emergency appointments during business hours. For after-hours issues, our voicemail has instructions for common problems and an emergency contact number. In the meantime, orthodontic wax (included in your take-home kit) can cover any irritating brackets or wires for temporary relief.
We offer several ways to make treatment affordable. Our in-house financing comes with 0% interest and flexible monthly payments that can be spread over the course of your treatment. We also accept CareCredit, FSA and HSA accounts, and all major credit cards. Family discounts are available when multiple family members are in treatment, and we offer a discount for payment in full. During your consultation, we'll review all your options and create a payment plan that works for your budget.
