Full-Service Machining Capabilities

Every process under one roof. From raw stock to certified finished part, Precision Works handles the complete manufacturing sequence with the documentation your program requires.

Capability 01

CNC Milling

Our milling department runs 3-axis, 4-axis, and full 5-axis simultaneous machining across eight machining centers. 5-axis capability means complex contoured surfaces, undercuts, and multi-face features are completed in a single setup — eliminating the tolerance stack-up and lead time that come from re-fixtured multi-operation jobs.

We machine aluminum, steel, stainless, titanium, Inconel, copper, brass, and a broad range of engineering plastics including Delrin, PEEK, and nylon. Hold sizes from small precision components under one inch to structural parts up to 40" in the longest dimension.

Capability 02

CNC Turning & Lathe Work

Four CNC turning centers handle rotational parts from small precision shafts under half an inch in diameter up to large structural components at 18" OD and 48" in length. Live tooling capability on our main turning centers means milled features, cross-drilled holes, and slots are completed in the same operation as turning — no secondary setups required.

Precision threading, bore sizing, grooving, and turning of complex profiles are routine. We hold OD tolerances to ±0.0005" consistently, with tighter tolerances achievable on shorter features with appropriate tooling and in-process measurement.

Capability 03

EDM — Electrical Discharge Machining

Three EDM units — two wire EDM and one sinker EDM — handle the geometries that conventional cutting simply cannot produce. Wire EDM excels at intricate 2D profiles, tight-radius internal corners, and through-cutting hardened materials without introducing heat-affected zones or distortion. Sinker EDM produces blind cavities, mold features, and complex 3D pockets using custom-shaped electrodes.

EDM is particularly valuable for aerospace and defense applications requiring features in hardened tool steel, Inconel, or titanium after heat treatment — eliminating the risk of distortion from conventional post-heat machining.

// EDM — TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Wire EDM Tolerance ±0.0002"
Wire EDM Work Area 20" x 14" x 12" (Z)
Sinker EDM Tolerance ±0.0005"

Min Internal Corner Radius 0.003" (Wire)
Max Part Hardness No limit — ideal for hardened steel

No Cutting Force — No Distortion EDM removes material electrically. No mechanical force means fragile features and thin walls stay true.
Any Conductive Material Wire EDM cuts any electrically conductive material regardless of hardness. Post-heat machining without distortion.
Tight Internal Corners Wire EDM achieves 0.003" minimum inside corner radius — impossible with conventional end milling.
Capability 04

Precision Grinding

Grinding is the final sizing operation for components where milling or turning tolerances aren't sufficient. Our surface grinding and cylindrical grinding capability achieves the tightest tolerances we offer — down to ±0.0001" — and produces the finest surface finishes in our facility at Ra 4 µin.

Common applications include hardened steel gage blocks and tooling, bearing journals, precision linear slides, hydraulic cylinder components, and any feature where final size must be held to tenths-of-a-thousandth. Grinding is performed after heat treatment, ensuring the finished dimensions are not affected by distortion.

// GRINDING — TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

Fabrication & Welding

Our fabrication department handles sheet metal cutting, bending, and forming along with MIG and TIG welding of structural and precision assemblies. The integration of welding and machining under one roof means weld assemblies and machined components are coordinated in the same production schedule — eliminating the scheduling delays and quality risks that come from split sourcing.

We fabricate structural steel frames, sheet metal enclosures, welded brackets, and fluid system components. TIG welding in 304 and 316 stainless is common for food-grade, pharmaceutical, and semiconductor customers. Post-weld machining of critical interfaces is performed after stress relief where required.

Inspection & Quality

Our dedicated climate-controlled CMM inspection room is the final checkpoint for every part we ship. Two Zeiss CMMs run full dimensional verification against part drawings, generating ballooned FAI reports, statistical process control data, and AS9102-compliant first article documentation on request.

Every measurement instrument in the facility — micrometers, calipers, bore gages, surface plates — is calibrated on a documented schedule traceable to NIST. Calibration records are maintained and available for customer audit. Our quality system is AS9100D certified, meaning the documentation you receive is backed by a third-party-audited management system, not just shop-floor habit.
